A spring wreath

When I saw THIS wreath

 image

Over @ MaryJanes and Galoshes – I knew I HAD to make one too!

I already had a similar punch. Mine was oval with scallops instead of a circle like she used. But it still turned out pretty well!

I also just wanted one butterfly. It’s hard to tell in the picture but I made a little “flower” of sorts in the same way the paper bags were attached and that’s where the butterfly sits. I used sheet music to make the flower.

Here is a picture of the process – I had everything I needed but the wreath base which is from the Dollar Tree so whole project only cost $1

And a final view of how it looks on my laundry room door

Safe Travels – Postcard Display

I haven’t traveled much in my life. But I have lots of friends that travel. Many people want to bring something back. I request postcards. My grandma has been sending me postcards from her travels for years. So I needed to find a way to display them.

A year or 2 a go I found a doll crib at my local goodwill. It was the PERFECT color… I have pieced it apart using the pieces for various things like the side rails as a trellis in my garden you saw in THIS post. So I decided to take the bottom part that the mattress would lay on to display my postcards. I stuck them in the metal where it would hold and used small clothespins from Walmart to hold where the metal wouldn’t. Here is how it turned out:

It is in the entry way so every time I leave the house I see all the safe travels people have had and it makes me remember to travel safely :)

Here is a close up of the piece of the bed:

It’s a soft blue color. The wall is not even though it looks like it in the picture. It looks like a blue speckled egg. Too pretty!

One more for good measure. :)

Posting to these parties!

An early spring garden

We have been very busy working on our garden here! We have had some nice days! Today was one so to inspire those here in the Northwest here are some pictures of my Garden today.  There is still a lot of work to do but it has come a long way and has a nice fresh look to start out the spring.

We put gravel down because it was too muddy. It has been nice so far with all the dogs.

Here is the full view – pieced together because I couldn’t get it all in one…

I can’t wait until the leaves come in on this lace leaf Japanese maple. It makes me think of the one my mother in law has in her yard with a little boy statue nestled in

Up the side yard – So much easier to pull wheelbarrowDSC00076

This is my rain barrel – It is super handy – Not pretty but a money saver for watering all our plants I would like to build something to sort of hide it – maybe some lattice

I want to paint this chair blue…I should be able to get it done this week

This tree has struggled. It was on the first tier but I pulled it out and stuck it in a pot. It seems to be doing well since it started bloomin! :)

The Man’s Fire Pit… A start to it… We had these extra bricks we like it and will finish going around the firepit

Have fun in your gardens! I hope you get to get out there in the sun!

A Beautiful Desk

I had such a great response over my craft storage I decided I must do another piece. Sure I SHOULD have waited until their are not 1 million other things going on around the house … but I didn’t… because I was in goodwill and found this piece:

image

How could I not get her? She’s so CURVY!!! She just needed a fresh coat of paint! Here she is all dressed up

image

Beautiful huh? She is painted with roller and brush in Ralph Lauren Roadster White. I decided to reuse the original hardware with this piece but sprayed it with a Rust-Oleum Hammered Spray paint in Dark Bronze.

Here are some of her details:

This shows some examples of choosing a TRULY good piece of furniture! This piece is solid wood with dove joints. A truly QUALITY piece of furniture we don’t see much of anymore!

So this piece took WAY longer than I thought it would and much longer than my china cabinet. i was ready to throw in the towel at a few different points. You see at first I used the rollable version of American Accents Heirloom White… I am pretty sure the paint was bad as even though I had Primed the piece the paint was easily scraping off. When I used the Ralph Lauren I had no problems… I won’t be using that paint again!!! I am glad it is FINALLY DONE! Now I can reclaim some space! :)
